Lean Management: How at Port Hotels we have improved the way we work to be better with each other and our customers

Lean Management is a powerful methodology aimed at continuous improvement. It involves identifying waste or "muda," which is defined as anything that does not add value for both internal and especially external customers, and eliminating it. Delays affecting guests, constant breakdowns, quality defects, movements of people and materials, warehouses full of perishable materials and products, or overproduction are considered waste and are the target to eradicate when working with Lean Management. At Port Hotels, we embrace this methodology to improve efficiency and, therefore, the satisfaction of both our internal and external customers. In this first foray into Lean Management, we have focused on the housekeeping and storeroom departments and have improved our internal procedures with cost reductions and task completion times. The application of Lean Management methodology requires the participation of teams that carry out most of the processes and are at the base of the hierarchical pyramid of a company. They always know what is happening or what may happen in a hotel, in our case.

Getaway to Valencia in May!

If you're looking forward to the May holiday weekend to escape the hustle and bustle of the capital, at Port Hotels, we have the perfect plan for you.

This time, we suggest visiting Valencia. It's a surprising destination with plenty of activities you can do in one, two, three days, or however long you wish to stay in the city. You'll always find something to do!

Your visit to the Valencian capital begins at one of the Port accommodations. Port Azafata and Port Feria are two three-star hotels located away from the city center but very well connected, a perfect option to forget about the car. On our website, you can reserve parking before your arrival. This way, you can use public transportation—metro, bus, or commuter rail—to get around to all your plans. Here are all the available options: How to Get Around Valencia | Valencia Transportation (visitvalencia.com)

Once you arrive in downtown Valencia, we suggest visiting some of the city's most important historical monuments. The Town Hall Square will be your first stop. Don't miss the chance to take a photo at its imposing entrance and admire its presidential balcony, so iconic during the Fallas festival.

If you continue your route towards Ciutat Vella, you'll find Plaza Redonda, the Central Market, the Silk Exchange, the Plaza de la Reina, the Valencia Cathedral, and the Plaza de la Virgen. Sightseeing tends to work up an appetite, so take advantage of the charming streets in this neighborhood to enjoy a terrace in the sun while tasting a traditional Valencian Paella.

Valencian Paella is a typical dish throughout the autonomous community, specifically originating from this city. Each locality has its own recipe, but the authentic one consists of rice, chicken, rabbit, green beans, tomato, "garrofó" (a type of bean), saffron, and olive oil.

To continue your getaway, we suggest an afternoon of shopping on Calle Colón, the most commercial area in Valencia. Fashion, makeup, technology, sports, home goods, local shops, and something for everyone.

At the end of Calle Colón, you'll find the imposing Valencia Bullring, operational since 1859. Next to it is the North Station, Valencia's historic main train station.

To top off a fantastic and complete day in Valencia, we suggest returning to the hotel and enjoying Room Service at Port Azafata. If, on the other hand, you're staying at Port Feria, you can enjoy a delicious informal dinner at the Cel & Terra restaurant.

If you decide to stay a few more days in Valencia, here are some other very interesting plans:

  • Visit the City of Arts and Sciences
  • Visit the Bioparc
  • Excursion to the Albufera and try "All i Pebre" dish
  • Visit the Mercado de Colón and Mercado de la Imprenta
  • Visit the Oceanogràfic
  • Visit Valencia's beaches

Are you in? We await you at Port Hotels.

La Palmera Cobra: The Singular Palm Tree of Elche from the Hotel Huerto del Cura

The Huerto del Cura hotel is located in the heart of Elche's palm grove. This was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on November 30, 2000.

This highly significant location gives the hotel a special uniqueness in the province, which is characterized by having other types of tree specimens such as pine, olive or Valencian oak. Among all the palm trees that embrace the facilities of the Huerto del Cura hotel we find the so-called Palmera Cobra, a spectacular Phoenix palm tree that takes its name from its serpentine reptilian appearance. The experts who have studied this specimen of palm tree assure that about ¾ parts are completely horizontal, part of its trunk being even underground, to later rise imperially towards the sky crowning its peculiar physiognomy with abundant clusters of dates, the large protagonists of Elche's gastronomy and especially the Hotel Huerto del Cura, where the renowned 'delicacies of Elche' were born several decades ago. La Palmera Cobra is part of the Route of the Singular Palm Trees of Elche.

This route values the Palmeral de Elche and the landscape complex that it forms throughout the length and breadth of the Elche town. The route is made up of 18 palm trees that stand out for their history, morphology or unique beauty. These are located in the historic palm grove, which is also the best-known tourist route in the city. The route is completely free and can be done on foot or by bicycle. It begins at the El Tridente palm tree, passing through the Cobra palm tree until it reaches the Pipas del Travalón Bajo.

The Cobra palm tree has been, and is, the scene of multiple interviews and it does not go unnoticed by hotel guests and future bride and groom who choose this space for their wedding celebration.

Since 2014 Valencia has positioned itself as a 'city of running' to consolidate the city as an international reference in the world of running. In the year 2021, Valencia held 28 races in which around 53,000 participants were counted.

At Port Hotels we believe in the potential of this initiative developed by the city of Valencia, which is why we have decided to offer services designed for our most sporty clients. At the Port Feria and Port Azafata hotels we have created a new menu suitable for athletes. This menu is based on high-protein foods to provide the energy needed to tackle a long-distance race. The special menu for athletes is subject to demand and must be requested upon arrival at the hotel reception.

But this is not all. All clients who are registered in a race will receive an exclusive 'runner pack' by showing their number at the hotel reception. This pack consists of a backpack, water, fresh fruit, an energy bar with no added sugar and dried fruit.

The Hotel Huerto del Cura receives the Silver Medal of the Bimil·lenari d'Elx

The Hotel Huerto del Cura receives the Silver Medal in the delivery of Medals of the Bimil·lenari d'Elx celebrated within the framework of the 9th of October, day of the Valencian Community.

“The medal is for one of the diamonds of the city's hotel and tourist offer, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Since it opened its doors thanks to the obstinacy of the Orts family, to be first a campsite and then a colonial-style hotel, this hotel establishment has captivated thousands of tourists, some of them renowned, who have stayed in our city. ”

“In recent decades the hotel has been growing and modernizing. In 2020 it was acquired by the Port Hotels hotel chain, a company led by businessman Toni Mayor, also president of the Hotel Association of the Valencian Community HOSBEC. With a face lift and the transformation of its spaces to become the quality reference in the province, this hotel has managed to combine innovation with tradition, it has maintained its distinctive character by being an oasis in the center of the city.” With these words concluded the presentation of the Silver Medal.

Patricia Maciá, Deputy Mayor of the Elche City Council, was in charge of delivering the Silver Medal, which was collected by Rafael Blanquer, General Manager of Port Hotels.

"This recognition is very special for us since this year we are celebrating the trajectory of an establishment that is much more than a hotel: it is gastronomy, it is culture, it is nature and it is pure Ilcitian," assured Blanquer, also President of AETE (Association of Tourist Companies of Elche).

“When in 2019 we acquired the hotels Port Jardín Milenio, Port Elche and also the Hotel Huerto del Cura, we made a firm commitment to a destination of great cultural and business value such as Elche. We want to take advantage of this moment to show our gratitude to the entire society of Elche for the great reception we have received in the city and to support our management, with which we have wanted to respect the DNA of the Hotel Huerto del Cura and the other establishments.”

Toni Mayor, president of Port Hotels, receives the Tourism City of Benidorm 2022 award

The president of Port Hotels and HOSBEC Toni Mayor has received from the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, the special mention of the 'Tourism City of Benidorm 2022' Awards within the framework of the celebration of World Tourism Day.

In an emotional act held in the Assembly Hall of the City Council of the tourist capital of the Valencian Community, Toni Mayor was moved to receive the award "precisely in the city where I was born and in which I have developed a large part of my business facet and all my family life".

The President of Port Hotels has recognized that "it is difficult to find another city in the world that hurts us and engages us as much as Benidorm businessmen" recalling that it has been and is the engine of our lives and we have dedicated a lot of human and personal economic efforts in enhancing its image, in renewing its name and in always maintaining its power as a great Spanish tourist destination.

Mayor has revealed the secret behind Benidorm and its tourist industry which is "work, work and much more work. And when you work on what is your passion, work becomes fun, comfortable and with a large dose of satisfaction".

As is customary in all his speeches, there has also been room for claiming the necessary strategic infrastructures: "I would have liked this city to have an AVE connection, a rail link to the airport, a powerful shopping centre, a Cultural Center and the Palacio de Congresos operating at full capacity... " but it has also looked back on revolutionary milestones such as the General Plan, the free height or the modification that allowed the revolution of the hotel plant with 4 and 5 star establishments. "Benidorm has to continue to be the spearhead of the tourist avant-garde. This is how it has been since Pedro Zaragoza in this year that we celebrate the centenary of his birth" Mayor revered in his speech asking that "we do not let laziness and the ordinary invade us Continuing with that nonconformist, imaginative, innovative, groundbreaking spirit is what will guarantee us the future."

Toni Mayor will pilot the relief in the presidency of HOSBEC before the end of the year, "making way for the new generation of businessmen who have to lead the tourism sector in the Valencian Community". He has recalled how he began his mandate with the financial and real estate crisis of 2008 and that now we are facing the most important energy crisis since 1973 and the inflationary tsunami largely produced by Putin's madness."

The mayor of Benidorm Toni Pérez, has had some beautiful and emotional words for the president of Port Hotels in his speech. "Toni is a reference in a sector that day in and day out also has to get up to work with the incomprehension of many, that distributes wealth like few other activities, an industry that does not relocate, considering how important this is".

In addition, he stressed that "Toni has always been there to stand up for the sector and the city and history will place him in the category of visionary for knowing how to anticipate and see the future of tourism in the most critical and complicated moments".

Discover the beauty and wellness circuit of the Port Benidorm Spa

There is something magical about your inner peace and there are few places where you can find it. The Port Benidorm Spa offers a wellness circuit that leaves no one indifferent.

The main objective of this circuit is to lead you to a deep level of relaxation, in which you only pay attention to the sensations that each station transmits to you. Immerse yourself in these waters and reach your maximum inner and outer beauty.

In the first place, we will begin with the acclimatization of the body to prepare it for the temperature changes that we will experience next. The optimal duration for acclimatization should be approximately 5 minutes and consists of a first warm water shower before entering the Spa. In this way we will also eliminate traces of creams, perfumes or dirt from our body that can be harmful when in contact with chlorine and high temperatures.

The circuit begins in the Finnish sauna. It is a great blow of dry heat, between 70 and 100º of temperature, to activate cell regeneration, eliminate liquids, rejuvenate the skin... The duration should be about 10 minutes and always interspersed with warm or cold water showers.

Next, it is the turn of the heated pool. Ten full minutes of relaxation and decontracting body massage thanks to the pressurized water jets.

Fourth, we will go through the hammam, also known as the Turkish bath. This is a treatment similar to the sauna with the difference that the heat comes from water vapor and natural essences that evaporate to dilate the pores of the skin. Its main function is the elimination of toxins and substances accumulated by daily pollution. For 15 minutes we will alternate the Turkish bath with cold water showers for an optimal effect.

Finally, we will do an exercise of intense temperature contrasts with the help of the ice pool and the heated pool, about 3 minutes each successively.

To finish, we recommend you relax your body in the hammock area, to recover the usual temperature and let the treatment flow correctly.

Literary Gastro Dinners at La Taula Restaurant in Elche

A few years ago, the La Taula restaurant in Elche began a stage aimed at this restless public and a lover of literary novelties, regularly establishing one Friday of each month the Literary Gastro Dinners.

In these evenings, writers are invited to share a debate and dinner with those attending the meeting. A meeting full of flavors with a gastronomic proposal inspired by the work to be discussed: an authentic experience for the five senses.

It is a special meeting in which, in addition to getting closer to the content of his latest book, attendees have the opportunity to get to know the authors more closely; the atmosphere in which the evening takes place is conducive to listening to endless anecdotes that bring us closer to both the novelist and his characters.

The night begins with a welcome co*cktail in which you have the first opportunity to meet the writer and this is followed by a dinner, whose menu is dedicated in a particular way to the details of the work with dishes that are inspired by the content of the book and evoke its characters. A special dinner and a good pairing are the ideal ingredient to share opinions and current literary issues, where you can also end up talking about other works by the author or his prose.

But these encounters go further. It is the author himself who wants his readers to know them better. Attendees listen with interest to personal details that never appear on the cover of the book in their hands, some even dare to ask them questions. The most eager to know are prepared with a bookmark to understand the reason for a special chapter.

To date, La Taula restaurant has had the opportunity to develop these dinners with Marta Robles, Dolores Redondo, Manuel Vilas, Nativel Preciado, Paloma Sanchez-Garnica, Santiago Posteguillo and Carmen Mola, among others.

The next appointment will be next Friday, June 10, when Jon Sistiaga will visit us, one of the most relevant investigative journalists in our country who makes his debut as a novelist with a shocking story in his book El Purgatorio.

These literary gatherings that spice up the gastronomy of Elche are an authentic experience that no book lover should miss.

This latest milestone marks the growth rate of the company co-founded by Toni Mayor, the president of the Valencian Community Hospitality Employer HOSBEC, which seeks to consolidate itself as one of the leading hotel chains at the regional level.

Port Hotels has expanded in recent years its hotel business model traditionally destined for sun and beach tourism on the Costa Blanca through the acquisition of urban hotels such as the Hotel Port Elche and the Hotel Port Jardín Milenio , in Elche, and the management of the Hotel Port Azafata and Hotel Port Feria , in Valencia. Enjoying at Playa de San Juan, much more than sun and water

SAN JUAN BEACH

Is one of the most appreciated beaches in the province of Alicante. It is almost 3 km long and a width highly value since in some sections it reaches 100 m.
Fine sands and transparent waters make it ideal to enjoy throughout the year. This beach also has areas for the practice of different sports such as volleyball, football, windsurfing, paddle surfing, etc.

We find another point of interest: The Skate Park of Playa de San Juan, very frequented by families and young people who come to enjoy with skates and skateboards.
Its walk is widely used by lovers of running and cycling, as it has a bike path that runs along the entire beach.

The beach has a good restaurant area with great places where you can try some of the delicius Alicante rice dishes. If you prefer, you'll also can eat in one of its "chiringuitos" close to the beach.

BOOK: Port Alicante San Juan Beach

San Juan Beach is perfect all year round, although it is true that summer is more crowed, it is always a good time for a walk or enjoy a moment of relax watching its wondeful sunsets.

At Port Hotels we are renovating our establishments

At Port Hotels we are taking advantage of the inactivity of the tourism sector to invest 3 million euros in our establishments and make a qualitative leap in many of our products.

After raising 48 million in 2019, 11.6% more than the previous year, we are allocating part of this capital to updating our hotels in order to come back to business in perfect shape and being being much more competitive.

Among the most important investments is the construction of the foundations to build a second tower in our flagship hotel in Benidorm, the Port Benidorm Hotel & Spa (4 * Sup). This expansion will be carried out in a first phase in which the foundation of the tower will be made, a first floor with new offices for the headquarters teams, whose growth will be constant in the coming years, and a second floor in where a multimedia room will be located as a service with high added value for customers. In the second phase of construction, to which between 10 and 12 million euros will be allocated, the rest of the tower will be erected, which will hold 120 more rooms, which will result in a hotel with 400 total rooms. In addition, the new tower will hold about 400m² more of dining room spaces and a heated outdoor swimming pool for guests staying in the new Suite rooms.

From Port Hotels we are also going to allocate part of the 3 million to the renovation of 9 rooms in the historic Hotel Huerto del Cura (Elche). This project will translate into a qualitative leap for these rooms and a considerable increase in their average price, designed to offer an experience typical of a five-star hotel.

In the Hotel Port Feria Valencia, the entire kitchen has been refurbished and in the Hotel Port Azafata Valencia, we have completed the renovation of the poolnd jacuzzi areas.

In addition, we will dedicate a good part of the resources to actions such as the improvement or creation of playgrounds in hotels such as Port Denia (Denia), Port Fiesta Park (Benidorm), Port Jardín Milenio (Elche) or Port Europa (Calpe), as well as the equipment, furnishings and painting of most of the hotels on the property.

During the months of inactivity due to the pandemic, the company has not only dedicated itself to the maintenance and upgrade of our establishments, but we have also created an online training platform for our employees, where they have received constant support, have had Access to professional coaching sessions and they have been able to update their skills for the openings.

Throughout 2021, the chain also plans to invest in a rigorous Corporate Social Responsibility plan that will turn our hotels into products not only for accommodation or vacations but also a lifestyle choice.
