One of the best comedy shows in recent memory isBrooklyn Nine-Nine. It works well for a number of reasons, ranging from the wacky scenarios to the talented cast to the hilarious running gags. The series also shines because of the serious issues that it touches upon including racism, sexual orientation, prejudice, and more.

Unlike a lot of long-running shows, most fans ofBrooklyn Nine-Nine would agree that the quality has been pretty consistent. At no point has the show ever been consideredbad or felt like a shell of its best self. Alas, that does make it extra difficult to pick out which season was the show at its peak.
Season 1
The show premiered back in 2013 and was an instant hit with critics. In fact, this first season won Golden Globe Awards for Best Actor (Andy Samberg) and Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy. Despite those accolades, season 1 still ranks last, which is telling of how good the show was in later years.
Season 1, like a lot of shows, saw the series trying to get its footing early on. A few episodes at the start saw characters figuring out what worked, as someone like Jake Peralta seemed like he was trying too hard to be funny. Of course, it quickly showed promise with "The Bet," which set up Jake and Amy's romance, and "The Pontiac Bandit," which introduced Doug Judy.
Season 7
The mostrecent set of episodes, season 7 is also the show's penultimate run as it is set to conclude with the upcoming eighth season.There was still a lot to like about this season, even if it ranks relatively low. With Jake and Amy as a married couple, they took their next step and decided to have a baby, with Amy giving birth ina fantastic finale.

There was the notable storyline of Holt having to deal with getting demoted all the way down to patrol officer, which altered the dynamics of the entire show. This season also made good use of returning guest stars, with two highlights being theMemento-themed episode surrounding Adrian Pimento and Doug Judy inviting Jake to his bachelor party, which led to some delightful shenanigans.
Season 6
In a move that stunned and upset the loyal fanbase, Fox made the call to cancelBrooklyn Nine-Nine after five seasons. NBC picked it up and the show hasn't really missed a beat. One of the things caused by the move was that the show wouldn't air during Halloween, meaning the annual heist was cleverly delayed until Cinco de Mayo.Thankfully, it was as hilarious as ever.
Other plot points saw Gina become an internet celebrity in what ended up being her final season and Holt intruding on the honeymoon of Jake and Amy.Terry passed the lieutenant's exam, Jake and Amy started their life as a married couple, and the show tackled the subject of sexual harassment in the workplace in "He Said, She Said."
Season 2
As noted,Brooklyn Nine-Nine took a short while to really find its groove. By the time season 2 rolled around, they were firing on all cylinders. The main focus was the "will they/won't they" aspect of Jake and Amy's relationship, as both dated other people before finally sharing a kiss in the finale that led to them getting together officially.
This season figured out that one of the funniest pairings was Gina and Charles, who became step-siblings after their parents get together, made more awkward by their own sexual history. Most of the Halloween Heist episodes from the series are great but an argument could be made that "Halloween II" was the best of them all, adding to this season's quality.
Season 3
Thanks to their kiss at the end of season 2, Jake and Amy finally became a couple in season 3. That wasn't the only major change though. With Holt working in a new department, the 99 needed a new captain and went through a few before Holt ultimately returned to his position. This season also saw the introduction of Adrian Pimento, one of the show's most popular recurring characters.

An aspect of season 3 that really stood out was the drama of the major arc. For a show based in a comedic world, the storyline involving Jimmy "The Butcher" Figgis gave the series a big bad. Amy had to go undercover in prison to get information on him and the investigation led to a shocking cliffhanger where Jake and Holt had to go into witness protection.
Season 4
Starting with Jake and Holt away from the team made season 4 different from the rest. It did wrap up that storyline in a timely fashion before taking down Figgis and bringing the whole team back together. The show again handled a touchy topic as Terry was racially profiled by a fellow officer.
Jake and Amy took the next step in their relationship, choosing to move in together. They put a bet on whose place they would move into only for Jake to let Amy win in the end, wanting to live with her. The show really hit on the drama in the end, as Jake and Rosawere framed by a crooked cop andfound guilty, meaning they'd start the next season in prison.
Season 5
Regardless of how great the rest of the show is, it feels like season 5 is the unquestioned king. There was so much going onthat made this season special. For starters, "The Big House" saw the show handle the fact that two of its core main characters were behind bars and how they returned to the fold.
There was also the outstanding "HalloVeen," which saw the annual heist interrupted so Jake could propose to Amy in the sweetest manner. They then tied the knot inan emotional finale. Meanwhile, "The Box"featuredan Emmy nominated guest appearance from Sterling K. Brown and the show expertly handled Rosa opening up about her sexuality to her parents.
