Charles Halberg has always believed in giving back—especially to nonprofit organizations in his town.This is why he started a unique fundraiser in 2011 called "Flat Stanley Rides a Harley for Kids and Cops."Yes, that Flat Stanley — the book character that students draw in school and then send to other people across the country."Every adult male driving a Harley, I figured should drive around the country with a paper doll raising money," said Charles Halberg, who also owns Stuart & Shelby Home Builders, to WPBF 25 News.He and his two friends began traveling the country on a motorcycle to raise money for local nonprofits and police organizations."We ride the motorcycle everywhere. First of all, we don’t trailer anywhere. It’s always riding, no matter rain, sleet, or snow," he said."The first three years we did this, we touched all 48 lower states," he added.This year, beginning July 4, the group will be hopping on a motorcycle from Delray Beach across the Midwest, and then back to Florida. Halberg said they will be traveling about 7,000 miles.The funds raised from the trip will benefit various local nonprofits and police organizations, helping them continue their important work in the community.
